One Poetry Poker Deal, Three Poems

Theme from The Poetry Cafe: Obsession
Deck: Falling Through Vortex B
Deal: absorb, afterwards, pour, minute, texture

I want to pour you into my coffee
Lean in and absorb your texture
As it burns my lips
Hold your heat forever in my palms
You are my cup of obsession
And the curls of steam etch your soul
On the wall in permanent marker
And minutes cannot erase your
Perfect image,
Perfect scent,
Perfect taste,
And with this want, there is no consequence
of afterwards.

Theme: Broken Pieces
Deck: Falling Through Vortex B
Deal: absorb, afterwards, pour, minute, texture

What happens afterwards,
when soft love takes on the texture of shattered glass?

What happens when the walls
no longer absorb the echoes of tears
and their remains pour out
as emptiness pours in?

What happens to me?

Do I become a schism,
with my armored smile outside
and my broken pieces within?

Do I swallow the minutes and the hours
to fill my abandoned skin?
Do I live at all to suffer?

Tell me, what happens afterwards?

Theme: Under the Rain
Deck: Falling Through Vortex B
Deal: absorb, afterwards, minute, pour, texture

The Rain of December
I left my heart in the rain of December,
and it’s the cleanest I’ve been since November.
The minutes poured down the blank wall
where the texture of May broke my fall.
The Hatter came by with the Hare,
and the Hare said that March was more fair.
He afterwards bid me hello
as he jumped to the alley below.
This rhyme is a bit hard to absorb
since the moon is no longer an orb,
but I tell you it’s true,
I haven’t been blue
since I left my heart in the rain of December.
